Garlic Knots

This classic Italian side dish is as simple as they come. Garlic knots are quick and easy to throw together on nights when unexpected house guests stop by and are always devoured within minutes of being pulled from the hot oven. I mean seriously, have you ever met anyone who doesn’t love a garlic knot!? ….That’s what I thought.

Next time you go grocery shopping, just throw a couple of pizza doughs and some garlic in your shopping cart and you’ve already got nearly have the ingredients on hand for a quick and yummy snack.

Our version of this classic recipe exchanges the butter for olive oil in keeping with my husbands vegan wishes. Obviously, if you are vegetarian, BRING ON THE BUTTER and enjoy this recipe all the same. Make sure you remember to throw together a quick marinara for dipping! You can find a simple, quick and easy homemade marinara recipe here.

**Side Note** Allow the dough to come to room temperature for about 1 hour before starting the recipe.

1 pizza dough, room temp
1.5 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp granulated garlic
1/2 cup olive oil (or butter, if you aren’t vegan)
7-8 large garlic cloves, minced
1/3 cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped
sea salt

Pre-heat the oven to 400° and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Sprinkle 1 Tbsp of all-purpose flour out onto your workspace and roll out the pizza dough.

Sprinkle the rolled out dough with remaining 1/2 Tbsp of flour and granulated garlic.

Cut the dough into small pieces approx. 1″ x 2″. I find that scissors work really well for cutting the dough.

Using your hands, roll each piece into a thin line and then create the knot.

Place knots on the parchment lined cookie sheet and allow to rest.

While the knots rest, into a small saucepan over medium-low heat add the olive oil and chopped garlic cloves and cook just until garlic becomes soft and slightly translucent. Be careful not to overcook as the flavor profile will change dramatically.

Brush some of the garlic infused olive oil onto the knots, sprinkle knots with sea salt and place the knots into the oven for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Place the remaining olive oil and garlic mixture into a large mixing bowl and add in the flat leaf parsley.

Once the knots come out of the oven, toss them in the bowl with the olive oil, garlic and parsley while the knots are still hot.

Serve immediately with a side of yummy marinara for dipping and ENJOY!!!
